DISCLAIMER: (and what’s with all the disclaimers, anyway?) I AM FINE. I AM HAPPY AND ENJOYING LIFE. Pretty much, anyway. I wrote this song a few years ago, and I honestly can’t remember what prompted the lyrics. While I was still working on it, I happened to hear the great Lucinda Williams’ song, Ventura, and something about the vibe of that song connected with my song. You overly picky readers will undoubtedly note that Lucinda’s song is about the town of Ventura, California, and it was actually the band America who released a song about the Ventura Highway. Whatever. Poetic license, mistake, faulty memory, call it what you will. Moving on….

Although we have played this song live at least once, one of the band members didn’t like at first. I’m not sure what changed his mind. (Or maybe he still doesn’t like it.) Here’s hoping that the recording is successful.

Given some recent song themes, a couple of you have asked if I’m ok.

I look out from inside my head
Wondering if I am dead
Well it is alarming that
I can’t tell

As I have stated very clearly above, yes I am, in fact, ok, although I admit to being plagued by doubts, uncertainty, lack of confidence, a desire to be more contented – the usual. As Cosmo Kramer so succinctly said, “I yearn”.

Your heartfelt expressions of concern have caused me to wonder whether my songs are skewing toward “downer”. I mean, there’s a track on our debut album called Sad.  Maybe I should create a Spotify playlist to make it easier to join me in my wallowing: “Down in Storytown”, maybe. To that end, I’ve done a quick survey of all the “downer” songs, and I think it can work. Should I do it?

You may be asking yourself, self, what would be some good news for Guy? Like the song, like the band, Listen, and find some friends to do the same (only if you actually like the music of course). Now, that’s not NO news, that’s GOOD NEWS.
